Import things to consider when choosing a makeup school.

There is no official industry recognition for a makeup artist and a certificate alone will not guarantee you work.
The makeup artist industry does not have any official award giving institute so a qualification alone will not get you work. In this industry you are judged on your visual work so it is important that you have something to show at the end of the education. A professional photo shoot can give you this and should be included.
There are a number of top international makeup artist who have no education but are working at the very top of the business.

Be sure to find out which makeup brands the school is working with while you are training. A good school will be supported by the best international brands.

Your training should be up to date and teaching you about the industry at present, that is where you will hopefully be working. Check out the type of work the teachers at the school have done in the past and are doing at present to ensure that your training is up to date.

Look at the students work on the web page to see if they are the type of work you would expect to see in today’s magazines. If they are not then you will not be getting the right photo shoot you deserve.

Important to know about the industry:

It is a very competitive and hard industry to work in. It is only you that can give yourself a successful career as a hair and makeup artist. It depends on your determination and personality. No school can do the work for you once you have finished training.

Once you are trained it is time to start your career and like any job you have to work your way up. It is not realistic to think you will go straight to shooting magazine covers and videos. No student can do that but there are chances to work along side those that do. These positions are as an assistant, watching and learning what is needed on the job.
